The calves are invisible from outside the ring. That is the point.

What you are watching is a behavior called bunching. It is not panic. It is not random crowding. It is one of the most well-documented protective strategies in the animal kingdom, passed down across generations through a social structure that researchers and field guides working in Tanzania's Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem have studied for decades.
