Serengeti Migration Safari 2026: Mara River Crossing Guide
Witness hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras surge across the crocodile-filled Grumeti and Mara Rivers in Tanzania's Serengeti, one of the most dramatic wildlife events on earth. This is the Great Migration river crossing up close: raw, unpredictable, and guided by Kijani Tours from the heart of it.
Every year, one of the most extraordinary wildlife events on earth unfolds across Tanzania's Serengeti. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras move together across open grasslands, driven by instinct, until they reach the Grumeti and Mara Rivers. What happens next is unlike anything else in nature. Herds surge forward, plunging into treacherous currents while Nile crocodiles wait motionless below the surface. It is a primal battle for survival, raw and completely unpredictable, and Kijani Tours puts you right in the middle of it.
This is the Great Migration river crossing up close: chaotic, heart-stopping, and unforgettable. Your safari goes beyond the crossing. Choose from a range of add-ons that deepen the experience and take you further into Tanzania's wild landscapes:
