From July to October, the wildebeest herds reach the northern Serengeti and cross the Mara River, often several times in both directions. No one can schedule a crossing. Zebras are more efficient at grazing tall, coarse grasses. They feed first on the tougher, upper layers of vegetation, effectively “preparing” the pasture. Wildebeest then follow, feeding on the shorter, nutrient-rich regrowth closer to the ground. On a full-day game drive in the northern Serengeti to witness Africa's most iconic animals up close. Explore the area adorned with large acacia trees, providing habitat for elephants, giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, and carnivores. Proceed to the Bologonja and Kogatende areas to encounter the Mara River, home to numerous hippos and Nile crocodiles. If the herds are gathering at the river, your guide positions the vehicle at a distance and waits; crossings can happen within minutes or not at all that day. Day 8

Enjoy a full day game drive

On your second day of full-day game drives in Kogatende, you will continue to see the sights of the Northern Serengeti and immerse yourself in its incredible wildlife. Keep an eye out for Nile crocodiles in action when the wildebeest are crossing the Mara River, lions, hyenas, and cheetahs waiting for them on the other side of the river. These majestic predators often roam the plains, and spotting them is a thrilling experience. The area is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, so look for colorful species like lilac-breasted rollers, African fish eagles, and vultures. Day 9

Fly from Kogatende to Arusha.

At the end of the tour, after breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for a flight back to Arusha. From there, you can either be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight or you can fly directly to JRO and connect with your departure flight.
